“Josep, who was a butcher by trade, worked in Barcelona’s Poble Espanyol. Through this job, the Codorniu family gave Josep and his wife Rosa the opportunity to start a small restaurant in 1969, right next to their current establishment. It was the kind of place that had little more than a few big tables for customers to share a meal and conversation.”

Josep, who was a butcher by trade, worked in Barcelona’s Poble Espanyol. Through this job, the Codorniu family gave Josep and his wife Rosa the opportunity to start a small restaurant in 1969, right next to their current establishment. It was the kind of place that had little more than a few big tables for customers to share a meal and conversation. The couple named their restaurant Chisu, an anagram of both of their surnames: Xias and Suriol. The establishment eventually became too small for demand, so they took over the restaurant next door. Over time, the business passed into the hands of their son Pere and his wife Rosa, who renovated it and expanded the customer base. Currently, they continue to run it with the help of their twin sons, Marc and Pere. Together, the family offers a solid selection of tasty Mediterranean Catalan cuisine.
