Located in the middle of the Priorat wine region is the picturesque village of Porrera, complete with stone houses, windy roads, and the Cortiella River that meanders between the hills. The owner of the Cooperative, a lady named Mia who was born in Porrera, moved to Barcelona when she was 17-years-old, which is where she began her culinary career. In 2004, she decided to return to Porrera with her husband, Litus, to open the Cooperative. Encouraged by an upsurge in tourism and an interest in the wine industry, Mia and Litus set about creating a restaurant with a focus on local organic produce. The two feel that otherwise the identity of the restaurant would be lost because it wouldn’t reflect the lands in which it’s located.
