This restaurant used to be called El Recó. However, the owner became known among Barcelona FC fans as “l’avi del Barça” (Avi means grandfather); hence the Recó de l’Avi name stuck. These days, Grandfather Joan is retired, although he still spends a lot of time on the premises. In 1974, he and his wife decided to open up part of his family’s old farmhouse, which has been proven to date back before 1700. The house was once a place for travellers and mule-drivers to rest and spend the night before crossing the Pyrenees. Since 2004, their three children – Joan, Carme, and occasionally Montserrat – have been running the restaurant and have opened a hotel up the top. The business has adapted to customer demands so the dishes are now a little more elaborate than before. The team uses local produce such as black pea or Berguedá corn.
