Located in an 18th-century farmhouse, Can Sabata had been a restaurant for many years until the former owner sold it to Marco and his mother, Mari, in 2015. The two decided it would be best to specialize in a particular dish to be successful – in their case: rice dishes. From there, they enlisted the help of Lluís Lucio, who had cooked rice dishes in Barcelona’s Escribà. Lluís doesn’t finish the rice in the oven, as many others do. Instead, he adds a Valencian touch by starting and finishing them over an open flame. Although the menu offers a wide variety of home-style and locally sourced cuisine, it’s nice to observe the long row of 12 stoves where different types of rice dishes are cooked before a hungry public: paella, Catalan (with mushrooms and sausages), gratinated black rice with aioli, and sweet rice with tripe.
