Around 1950, Miquel and Maria decided to open a grocery store that served a few dishes right where the restaurant stands today. As they were right in the middle of Mollet de Perelada, many travellers would stop there while transporting wine, oil, livestock, and other goods. The arrival of the CIR 9 military base at the neighbouring town of Sant Climent saw their customer base increase, so they began to specialise as a traditional family-run restaurant that served Catalan cuisine. Currently, the third and fourth generation of the Barris family are in charge of the business. The team have continued to preserve their traditional house recipes and cuisine, much of which is disappearing in other restaurants. “Our house has always been a matriarchy, which is why we’ve kept the name of the founder, Maria,” they explained to us.
