Founder Joan Sala Lloberas was a fisherman and the president of the Lloret fishermen’s association. When the first tourists began to arrive, Joan figured there was a demand for fresh fish, so he opened the Bodega Sa Xarxa. Loads of fishermen would come to eat, so the English called it the “Fisherman’s pub”, a nickname which has since remained. Apart from being a fisherman, Joan was a renowned local painter and writer – a versatile man always accompanied by his wife Lluïsa who has been active at the restaurant since day one. Years later, his daughter Rosa Maria and her husband, Salvador, continued the business, expanding the menu to include hot meals and all kinds of delicious sausages and cheese.
